I honestly didn't think Riley would do it, but this is kind of like that, "You won 1,000 bucks" kind of surprise! Glad to see change, hope we find someone who is a very solid Defensive coach.

These poll questions are not mutually exclusive. I was very surprised that Riley pulled the trigger. On the other hand, given our defensive ranking, it was necessary.

I really liked Banker as a person. However, a new defensive scheme was necessary. Do we have the right guy in mind, I hope so. We need him here and no some long hire run.

While I would have replaced Davis and Cavanaugh long before Banker I do think that the change is needed. We can't seem to recruit d-ends. Maybe a 3-4 would be a better fit. Riley however doesn't seem to be as proficient at hiring good coaches as he is at firing bad ones. Doesn't give me much hope.

The D wasn't good enough....not up to NU standards and not championship worthy! That wasn't terribly surprising though because the fact is, they didn't play much D at Oregon State either! NU has to have a dominant D if we are ever going to win another title of any kind, conf or natl titles!

Didn't see him get the D to an elite level.

Banker has always been a DC and that can be evidence that he was not good enough to move up or maybe he turned things down but he has not produced top tier defenses and shown recruiting greatness to my knowledge.

Banker's Defense looked just as porous and unprepared as Pelini's defenses. Familiar scene watching them get smacked around in all big games that matter.

Banker made poor post game comments following Iowa and Tennessee Bowl game reflecting on the his players. Additionally, not a savvy recruiter.

Two years have proven that scheme cannot make up for lack of talent. Between those two facets and recruiting, it was important for Riley to do this now.

Nebraskas defense was adequate for middle tier teams but very inadequate for top tier teams. The reasons are many but his philosophical approach to defense for the big ten.

I'm definitely shocked an surprised, but it was definitely necessary... just gotta make sure that the new guy is superior to the one who was just let go. Shouldn't be hard.

It was time for change on that side of the ball. The defensive line play was atrocious! We need someone who can teach these kids the fundamentals and start working on putting fear back in our opponents offense. Also he was definitely a weak link in recruiting! Good Luck Mr. Banker!

This all started over a year ago not having a plan B in place for the D-line, and it continued to be an issue with current recruiting situation.

it was needed, and we need to give HCMR a hi five. Not like the previous staff that played the shell games when it came to shaking up the staff. MB will land on his feet.

He needed to be fired at Oregon St but we took him off of their hands. Now we can get someone who knows how to recruit and play sound tough defense.

Was Trev Alberts correct in keeping Nebraska men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg for another year?

Do you think Trev Alberts was correct to push for the coaching staff changes before season end?

The defense has made progress. The offense not so much. The real problem is Frost's dedication to Martinez. Adrian is a great guy, but his minuses exceed his pluses.

The production was there from those coaches. Better to make the decision then, so you can still have a positive impact with recruiting.

If you are not going to make new hires before the end of the season anyway, what was the purpose in firing them now? It will be interesting to see how the offense performs, but I can't see this as beneficial.
